... Is a rough touch-and-go.
A British Airways flight from Nigeria to Heathrow was forced to abort its landing and make a second attempt after fierce winds from a winter storm spoiled the 1st.

Seems like he was down... Was there a purpose to taking back off, or was he going to run out of runway, or...?

Kind of hard to tell in the video, but he might have landed long and wouldn’t have had time to stop.

I would argue that a crash landing is also worse than a rough landing

Hard to tell, but it looked like they were pretty far off the centerline and heading to the right, off the runway. Even if you turn (left rudder) at that speed, you might cause one wing to take off again. Probably some short-term wind shear messed it up at the last minute. Safer to try again.

Might have been too dangerous to maneuver on the ground between the water and the wind. Commercial jets are still going 100+mph when they touch down. Last thing you want is for a 200,000lb machine to hydroplane at that speed.

That is some of the best commentary I’ve heard....that dude should have a job on TV, maybe get him for Formula E to liven up the audio broadcast.

This bloke, BigJetTV, is so entertaining! Plus his YouTube post was 6 plus hours. Six hours in a muddy field, in the cold driving rain hand holding/or tripod assisted shots for the love of Jets! What a guy! The G o-Around? If there is anything that the aircraft commander is not comfortable with, bail on it and go around. It could have been distance, bra king, whatever. GO around. After all, you aren’t paying for the gas.

It looks like he was headed towards the grass. That would have made for a very rough landing.

To do that, things would have had to be going bad quickly. It takes time for the engines to spool up from idle, 7? 10 seconds? more? So they could have had the power levers up for a go around already whil the plane was still sinking...touching the ground...and then you see the spray kick up.
So heres 6 friggin hours of this guy just watching poeple land on a really tough day. Always fun watching the pilots really working hard.
Kind of fun to see what companies from what countries train their weather landings.

Dunno. Usually when all three wheels are down it’s a wrap.
